I will be sitting my Level 2 manual exam in June (*) then working my way through computerized level 2. (*) I assume I won't need to book by the start of May as the new procedure will have started.
After that I will be doing Manual Level 3 with Ideal Schools. Is there any books I could buy along with this? I already have Frank Wood's Business Accounting Volume 1 and am considering buying Volume 2. The ICB website has Kaplan Advanced Bookkeeping for £32.
So does anyone have either of these books? Is FW book suitable for the exam I'm taking?

I was in Foyles yesterday as had a bit of time to kill (three hours) before a meeting so spent the time held up in the accountancy department (now moved from the 1st floor to the basement).
I had a read of the Kaplan Advanced Bookkeeping and it's definitely not one that I would buy. It's at a far lower level than the Woods book that you already have.
Volume2 of business accounting is more concerned with costing and management accounting. A lot of excellent information in there and well worth the money but probably not very applicable to ICB level II.
However, if you wanted the perfect accompaniment for business accounting volume 1 try Business Accounts for book keepers and financial accounting students by David Cox, Osbourne press, ISBN 978-1872962634 and only £18.43 from Amazon.
Its also an AAT standard text with much more info in it than the Kaplan book for a little over half the price.
The Woods volume 1 and David Cox books will both get you through ICB levels II and III. If you can afford to buy the Woods volume 2 as well I would. but as I say, don't bother with the Kaplan text.
Also when in Foyles I had a look at some of the Schaums books on bookkeeping and accounting. Bigger than I thought that they would be but Poor quality paper that feels as though it would disintegrate very quickly.

Thanks for that. I'll steer well clear of the book the ICB recommends for its exam. I was intending purchasing the FW Vol 2 more for Level 3 than Level 2.
I think I'll get that book by David Cox and probably the FM Vol 2 as well. £32 isn't that much considering the amount I used to spend buying junk on Ebay. A six string banjo - what was I thinking?

I've bought way too many books in my time from Amazon and Ebay based often on other peoples recommendations. Too often you find that the five star title that you purchased is full of errors, omissions and inconsistencies or is just too darn boring to read.
Spending an afternoon cross legged up the corner in Foyles you can really make your own mind up as to what's good and what's not... And then go and buy it at half the price from Amazon.
Tell Bill about you Banjo. He's learning at the moment so you may have a buyer if you don't want it!!!!

I have a couple of cheap guitars - and the reason I went for a six string is it is tuned the same as a guitar. Well, that's how I tune it. Problem is it isn't so easy to bend strings with a banjo.
