Online bookkeeping - Any suggestions
Permalink Closed

Hello all

I have a quick question for you.  My client would like his accounts completing online so that he can see then whenever he wants and know exactly where he is.

When I started working with him, I was using an Excel type spreadsheet via Google Docs so that he and I could both see the most up to date information.  He then needed to register for VAT and I needed better software so we agreed to move the accounts onto VT Transaction.

However, this system isn't working for my client.  Is there any software available that I can use to do the clients accounts in a way that he can see them as well?

Terri

I have looked at three companies who offer online bookkeeping so far:

Kashflow
Free Agent
Clear Books

The cost for all three is around £15 a month which I would have to check with my client that he is happy to pay, but wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

Terri

Hi Terry

Whilst I am not a fan or user of any of these products. The one that I have heard most about and all positve is Kashflow.

When I was first starting out I looked at Kashflow but for my sins I like Sage (ok don't shoot me, I have just used it for years) so I carried on with what I know best.

Good luck with what you decide and I can't wait to hear how you get on with it.

Regards

Mark

I agree with Mark - I'm not a fan on online book-keeping but Kashflow seems to be the best option.

As above - Kashflow is one a couple of people I know use.  Another one is Liquid Accounts - worth a look I suppose.

Good luck in your search!

Hi Terri

Sorry this is late - I have only just seen this thread!

We are part of the KashFlow partner programme so get the software at reduced rates. If you did decide to go for KashFlow and haven't got it yet, let me know and I can reduce the costs for your client.

Kind regards

Zöe

KashFlow are accredited by the ICB, here is a review from the March newsletter (half way down the page): http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/News/642

Clear Books are also accredited, here is their review from August 09 (half way down again): http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/News/556

ICB do have their own online software package written by Iris, if you would like information please contact the ICB. We are currently updating the sign up forms.

Hope this helps

James / ICB

I am currently looking at online systems and Arithmo also say they are accredited by you guys.

Question - what does that actually mean? Does it mean they have paid their dues or that you have looked at their systems and think they work well?

Thanks.

P

Thanks Phil

Yep James/ ICB, Where's our plug (Especially considering I am also a member of ICB)?

Arithmo is only £40- £45 plus vat per annum per client.

We are also shortlisted for the Software version of the Oscars: SME Accounting and Finance category. (Quentin's Accountz is also shortlisted in the same category)

With the online accounting systems are they all for the one company or are there any packages that can be purchased by a bookkeeper where you could potentially do the bookkeeping for a number of clients on the same system?

I have just started using www.mybookkeepingonline.co.uk and found it to be great for my clients. I was contacted by the company directly and given a demo by the person that designed the software, I guy called Tim Haggard.

It's worth a look as it is good value per month and the online support / videos have been brilliant.

I also use Kashflow, and this too has been well received by my clients, unfortunately, I have not used any of the other software options mentioned.

Really puzzled about these online bookkeeping services.

How does the client give the bookkeeper sight of the Original Documents
(Sales/Purchase Invoices, cheques, bills, statements, etc.)   ?
I thought this would be important in performance of MLR "due deligence" confuse

The client could post the documents, fax, or scan and email the documents.

Hi,

Xero is another. FreeAgent is associated with Iris so Accountants may like that because they may use Iris or Digita as their tax software.

I use Kashflow at the moment and I like it but it has limitations. I am looking into Fusion though seems very user friendly.

Mel.

Another big up for KashFlow here - feel free to check out the 60 day trial

They also now offer the 'rapid fire' package which is ideal for bookkeepers. An offline addition to the KashFlow package making it easy to deal with multiple clients.

My rates for KashFlow are £14.99 to non clients, £12.99 to my recommended bookkeepers and £10.99 to my accounting clients.

Oops - sorry, I realised I didn't put our KashFlow prices on here. We charge for year, rather than the month which is £90 + VAT.

If anyone wants a free trial, let me know.

Kind regards

My client would like his accounts completing online so that he can see then whenever he wants and know exactly where he is.

I can offer a free online bookkeeping service which may be suitable for clients with basic record keeping needs. Hope this is helpful.

If I've done it right, the link should be in my sig.
