Permalink Closed

Can anyone help?

I do the accounts foamy small business and three of my co-directors are external people who are out of the office majority of the time seeing customers.

My question is when they claim their expenses each month they include for meals/lunch/snacks they have when they are out, can I claim vat back on these?

Also if they stay overnight in a hotel can I claim back vat on food and drink they have?

Thanks

Hi

You can claim back the VAT if the expense is for the employee only and is soley business related with a VAT receipt. You cannot claim back VAT on any portion that may be classed as entertainment ie taking a client out to dinner. Usually its more hassle to work out which part is for the employee and which is not, so most people do not bother.
