Sage Accounts Level 2 Exam Worry

Hi all

I have my exam next week and have got myself into a panic! In the printouts you have to print a customer statement but does it have to be for the whole financial year till the date they specify or only for that month or do you only put the date they have given?

You need to read what it says on the exam paper. Which awarding body is it? When does the data you will be using start. Do they want b/f figures or actuals for the entire period? Do they want items grouped or individual? Do they want outstanding items or all items? These are the things you need to be told before you can choose the correct statement to print.

Ok I checked the past papers that we were given and here are the instructions word for word: Provide a printout of the customer statement for Jades Knitting dated 31 May.

Hi Michelle, Im a newbie that hasnt even started her training yet, but I do know something about exams and the stress they can cause. Panic before an exam is normal... it is a signal given to show that you care and you are committed to doing as well as you can. The way to deal with these attacks is simple.... come away from your studies, have a cuppa, go for a walk and when rational thought returns tackle the problem, or challenge head on, by just doing what you have just done.....take comfort in knowing that we all have these exam nerves, even those of us who have sat more exams than we have had hot dinners! lol

To be truthful, that requests sounds a bit vague from reading Sheila's post perhaps something that needs clarified with your tutor, learning provider or from the answer given in the past paper.....

Best these questions are asked now, instead of in the exam, your properly revising!

Go to customers click on statements , generate report and in the second date box put 31st may this will then generate a statement for dated 31st may.

Dark Rose

If all the paper says is print out as at 31st May, then just do as Steve says. (Alternatively if you want to cover all bases - do several print outs and let them choose!!!!!)

we were always told to follow the instructions to letter because you have to prove you understand what they are asking. If you print out several statements you would not be following what you were asked and could loose marks.

Michelle

I used to be an examiner/moderator with an exam board which asked for a specific customer statement and if that wasn't given then marks were lost. However, the poster stated that the question simply asked for a customer statement as at 31st May, therefore, it would be very difficult to second guess which particular statement was required.

We had the same problem in our computerised accounting exam. After much grief over which reports to print the tutor decided to tell exactly what she wanted before the exam and then it was just down to us to locate and print the report.

Yes, well my problem is that the tutor said not to worry about the date and just print but it asks for a from and to date when you click the report so, what I had been doing was putting the date they specified into both boxes so that it has that date on the printout. It was only this week that I started doubting it and thinking I was doing the wrong thing. Seeing as it says "at" do you think that means that maybe they just want a statement with the balance at the date they specified? Also is it normal for the remittance print-out to not actually have "remittance" on it?

Exam panic, I know smile.gif

I would put the date specified in the second date box the "to" box and just print the first choice on the list and don't worry about the remittance it isn't asking for that.

Don't put the same date in the from and to, this will definitely not be what the examiner is seeking. If not requested in the exam leave the from date to default and put 31st May (or whatever) in the to box.

The Remittance one is another print-out that has to be done for the exam smile.gif

Back to the statement thing, this is really bothering me! In all the past papers we have been doing, I have been doing the print-outs for the statement by putting the date specified in both boxes so that the print-out shows balance for the date they ask for. I thought this was right because the question says Provide a printout of the customer statement for Jades Knitting "dated" 31 May. So I assumed that because it says dated it meant that the statment had to be dated 31 May. The other options you have suggested would mean that the statement would list all transactions and not have that date listed on it?

I am so confused now lol thank you for the help, I'm really appreciating it!

It would have the date on it though, if you put 31st May in the second box the statement will have 31st May as the date and show all outstanding invoices from when the account was set-up, which is from a business point of view what you want to be sending to the customer so they know what they owe.
I have just generated a statement for one of the customers on my system and it definately shows 31st May.
If in doubt the best thing to do is ask the tutor what they are expecting to see, as I pointed out earlier we had the same problem for the AAT exam so she just verirfied what it was they were asking.

Ok big thanks to you! I have just realised what the problem is! Our tutor has been telling us to print off the Email one for the statement because it says statement on it but if you do this it does not show the right date so if I did it the way you said it would not have 31 May on it. I was just going through the other A4 ones and I noticed they do show the right date :D

So now I have a much easier question.........which A4 statement do you select to print off?

Any you want, they offer a variety but it's down to the business, print the most attractive one off if you want, personally I would print the first one off the list as it really doesn't matter as long as it is a statement.

You want either the one that says something like Outstanding All Items (grouped) or Outstanding All Items (individual), otherwise you will get All items whether they have been paid or not and a customer only needs to know what hasn't been paid. The difference between Grouped and individual is that the grouped one just shows the total of the invoice whereas the individual shows all item lines on the invoice.
