Potential new client

Morning all,

I've got a meeting this morning with a potential new client.  He wants to change bookkeeper and the software they are using, they are currently using TAS Books (????), and wants to change to either sage or quick books.  Which is fine as I use both of these but I was just wondering if I would just start the new software from now or do you think I should go back and start from the beginning of the financial year and re input the transactions up until now.  I was just thinking that to have it from the beginning of the financial year would make more sense for VAT returns (???).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I haven't had to change software with a client before, I've either started from scratch or carried on with their current software.

Thank you

Kim

Hi Kim

I hope that your meeting went well with you potential client.

Whilst I don't know for sure but as TAS books is part of Sage it may be easy to transfer the data from one to the other.

If you are not able to export the data I wouldn't re-enter all of the previous transactions (I doubt whether your new client would pay for this) I would just end a period on TAS, run a trial balance on TAS, enter this as opening balance on the new software and start the next period, and if it means that you have to add two reports together to complete a VAT return so be it but that would be better than doing a complete re-enter.

Regards

Mark

Thanks for your reply Mark, the meeting did go well and he's asked me to put in a price based on one day a months work, but to be honest I think I might be a bit out of my depth there. It isn't just one business, there are three separate ones, but all linked in some way. I just don't know if I'm ready to take on such a complicated business.

Thanks again

Kim

My goodness! Three businesses and he wants them all done in one day per month? One might be forgiven for thinking that he doesn't value them very highly, then ...
