I agree about slow progression but this only works if you are lucky enough to be getting some hands on experience at the same time. Not easy unless you are 16-18 and have something about you.
Fast track training sells like hot cakes all over the world and people are willing to spend a fortune on it and this is without help and coaching afterwards. I wish it had been around thirty years ago.

My quote:
The fact that people can obtain a qualification but never be able to use it for various reasons, one being that they lack social skills or the confidence to go out and get it has been recognised by ICB. I know someone who knows someone who has been asked to get involved with writing a bookkeeping business start up information and coaching package with them which no doubt will have Video bells and whistles, but if it works, their membership and more importantly practising membershps will double. Even down to getting the clients using modern technology and methods.

Now isnt it a pity we didnt think of it first.

I have edited it very slightly as it was very late and I missed two words that would have made it easier to understand. Sorry.

I'm also surprised you have recently "done" some psychology courses.

What do you mean or what are you implying? as if I need to ask.

I "didnt" state that I was a psychologist or that I had achieved any specific qualification but the courses I "completed" taught me a lot about human behaviour. We are not as mighty as we think.
I "did" the courses for my own CPD

This really is like being in a new school. Well my dads bigger than yours.

How long have you been on this forum? It wasnt that long ago you were asking for help in getting started therefore I think you are ignorant of the facts due to your inexperience even though you now waffle on as though you are an expert. I got 30 years on you so I doubt you have anything to offer apart from always agreeing with Shaun, who for the record is a very helpful and experienced man. There is more but I will save it for now.

Hi Kris,

I know, I'm thinking OMG he's lit Sheila's blue touch paper.

I'm hoping that Garry doesn't make Steve abandon the site as (a) he would be greatly missed and (b) I might have to start answering Sage questions myself!

Actually, taking the moral high ground I've stopped replying to Garry's posts on this thread as the whole thing seems to be in a bit of a downward spiral of exchanged insults.

I've got to agree with you Shaun. And Steve, I wouldn't bother with anything Garry says. Every forum has them. I suppose we've been spoiled here for too long, it had to happen sooner or later.

Cheers man, I have to say it would take more than an obviously frustrated troll to make me abandon the forum.

Hows the job going?

Aye true, maybe it's time for someone to be assigned as a moderator, a forum I go on don't allow things like this to happen they just ban people for anything construed as a personal attack.

I shall take your advice and ignore. biggrin

The name is Gary by the way. Attention to detail please.
I can also form my own opinions and choose who I wish to involve myself with.
Lets bring in the moderator and let them see who struck the first blow.
All I can see from some members is the same old advice but surely we are all individuals and as such can choose who we wish to believe.

Horses for courses.

Lets take an example. If the characters from Coronation street came on here and asked about becoming a bookkeeper and they were then advised to do AAT, CIMA or ACCA. How many of them would be well advised and go on to be successfull. We all know that it takes more than passing a few exams to be able to carry it off. Could you imagine Fiz being able to sit down with a client and impress them?

What I am trying to say here is that you should always try to establish someones capabilities before giving advice otherwise ill advice can be expensive and heart breaking. I can see that there are people on here who really do think they are helping and have the best intentions so why dont you get together and devise a questionair/aptitude test and then feed back your recomendations after establishing the persons dreams, suitability and capability. They would really appreciate that you went to the trouble.

I could let you have some of mine but as you all think I am an idiot they wont be of any use.
If you do go to the trouble make sure there is plenty of emphasis on interpretation, logic, common sense and determination but do establish the dream first.

Anyone up for some discount on Kaplan publications?

You have all got potential

You have done it again. Stop throwing insults, I dont even know what a troll is but it doesnt sound very nice. I hope your attitude changes when you get qualified otherwise you will struggle.

Have a word Shaun, you mentored him.

Well, I could go to all the trouble you suggest Garry, but here's the thing... I have a business to run, as do most others here.

We come together, give advice and bounce ideas around when we can, but I'm not sure anyone of us would have the time to dedicate to what you are suggesting.

I had to read your post a few times, as I couldn't believe the aggressive, 'in your face' attitude has STARTED to disappear.

Perhaps if you had started off like that you wouldn't have rubbed almost every regular user up the wrong way in such a short period of time.

Your last post did make me laugh, for the reason I've previously outlined. If you regularly have the attitude that you came onto this forum with I cant understand why you haven't struggled also.

Perhaps we can look forward to seeing a more personable, friendly and helpful side of you? Or do I pray for too much?

Kris

Oh, one more thing, you can put everything you want to say in one post, there's really no need for 2 or 3 one after the other, and if you post and remember something else there's an edit button.

I hope the irony isn't wasted here.

Hi Steve,

Just had a read of your link and I have to say that I genuinely didn't know that!

My idea of a Troll is something that lives under a bridge and eats goats that trip trap over the boards! (Really unhappy that my boys now outgrown the three billy goats gruff!).

Mmm, maybe he's almost ready for reading Beowulf (tenuous link there as Gwendles child was a troll). Then again, even though they're full of heroes, Dragons and Trolls maybe Norse saga's might still be a bit too advanced for an eleven year old.

Anyway, just a flying visit tonight. I wasn't going to log in at all but morbid curiosity as to what might have developed on this thread brought me back for a quick glance.

H,
I just wanted to say, that I haven't been on here for a while but always found it very helpful and informative. One point to mention is that whatever question I have ever asked, no matter how silly, has always been answered with friendly advice and help. If I was stumbling across this forum now though and read this thread it would put me off posting on here just because of the sheer agressivness of gary.
I understand everyone is entitled to an opinion and everyone believes they are right, but you are just rude Gary. There is no need to get personal on these forums, everyone is here to help everyone else
I'll sit and wait for the insults I'm most likely to get now as I'm not qualified, new to the forum and obviously don't know what i'm talking about!
