I have just completed ICB Level 1 and passed - easy really although I got 91% where should really get 100% - Didn;t read the questions for the ones I got wrong, not really a good excuse. Doing it at home tempted to give the books out but thought what good would that do - anyway I didn;t need them.. just needed to read throught the questions without thinking - how easy is this... that will teach me.
Now do I go on and do Level II - Dont think I am going to become a self employed bookkeeper as first thought - I have landed a job without having qualification - just knowledge and experience - I could really do with refreshing the knowledge bit, so I thought - Level II would do just that........what do you all think, I have read a lot of threads on here about ICB...
Well done on your success. Qualifications are all about what you want to do in the future. It sounds as if ICB is ok for what you want to do and is a good measure of your ability. Its a good option to go down to test yourself at thes ame time as getting qualifications.
Many people have a few bad things to say about ICB but in the end its your experiences that count and its an easy route to take, so I would stick at it. If you wish to further your career you may wish to think about other courses such as AAT etc, but you need to think whether thye would be worth your while.
Kaplan is the official ICB approved publisher and they do a book that covers Level 1 and 2 Manual Bookkeeping called Practical Bookkeeping, and another book that covers Level 3 Manual called Advanced Bookkeeping.
If you want a general overview of the logic I am launching a free guide this month on my AccountingForEveryone site (link in sig below). This is not a replacement for ICB (or any other course materials) but something I originally published some 12 years ago in a book that is long since out of print. I know it helped many thousands of novice bookkeepers then, so maybe it will help you now.
