I have heard of Accountz once through a training provider.  I was enquiring about courses and they were about to start using the software to train candidates.

According to them it was very good, but they may be resellers of the software so can't always take their word.

I am the chap behind the British software company: Accountz. Thank you for giving my company a mention. Our software is slightly different from everything else. It was designed for lay-people using the terms From and To instead of Credit and Debit. However, we are adding an 'accountants language' option to it, which will make it accessible to bookkeepers. If you fancy giving it a go, please get in contact and I will be delighted to send you a trial as soon as the language option is in place (September 2010). You can contact me on 01354 691650 or via email q.p at accountz dot com.

For those new to bookkeeping or running your own bookkeeping business, I have written some articles that may help on my accountingforeveryone.com site.

Apologies if I am stepping on anyones' toes on this site. I have spent most of my life helping small businesses, but until recently we have mostly been hidden from the mainstream software vendors.

I am looking for a web based accounts package for our outsourcing business. Does yours do that? I must admit I have not taken a look, too busy, but will at some point.

We use Sage alot but at £1000 per client, a bit pricey!

Any other software recommended by anyone, ie Kashflow etc

Cheers.

One I've heard of but not yet used is Liquid Accounts - worth a look.

Our system is a web based system,  Arithmo.  It has been accredited by the ICB.

http://arithmo.co.uk/for_the_accountant.php

Within the accountants suite, you can manage all your clients books and you can also set up accounts for individual clients.

We also brand the system at no extra cost, so when your clients login to their system, they can see your logo and practice's colour scheme.

Licence fee per client per annum (which includes upgrades and hosting):  £50 plus vat for first 10 clients, £40 plus vat thereafter.

There is an exciting debate going on in software land:  we based solutions or on-premise solution.

Accountz software is Desktop based (no internet required for it to work other than entering your licence on first use).

Dalbir is right, there is a very interesting debate going on re web or desktop. Some love web, some love desktop. The downside of desktop is that you need some remote access software to access it when away from your office, and your computer must be left on (TeamViewer.com is a great free solution). The downside of web is that you cannot access it at all without an internet connection. I believe the future will produce a hybrid to give the best of both worlds.

There, you heard it here first :)

A system that has the flexibility of an on-line system with less reliance on the internet is a great idea but it will have to be reliable too.

I have found hosted versions of desktop systems to be less reliable than their desktop siblings and less reliable than pure on-line systems.

Costs wise too, Hybrid would be more expensive then an online or desktop system to maintain.

Like Quentin has highlighted; each system has its own merits and drawbacks, so pick the best software for the job you want doing.

Dalbir

Cheeky PS: If you want desktop solution- trial Accountz. if you want online system, trial Arithmo. if you are unsure, trial both software.
