I have a transport company that has just started running to the EU. Some cash running money has been used to buy fuel and pay for tolls in the EU. Do these purchases come under Box 9 as acquisitions/services? Tried the VAT helpline but it is continually busy.
Can anyone also point me to a more simplified explanation of Intrastat than the HMRC one please.

Hi, boxes 8 and 9 on the VAT return are for intrastat purposes - ie recording of the physical movement of goods (and related services) between EC member states. So, fuel would not go here. I would record it as an expense in box 7. I am ex VAT staff, and always think VAT notice 700/12 'Filling in your VAT return' is the handiest and simplest guide. Good luck!
Thank you. I thought it wouldn't but couldn't get a definite answer anywhere either from HMRC website or google. HMRC helpline has had the busy call back message all day.
