I've just gone in to private practice and am looking for peoples experiences with different software packages. I've used Sage packages all my career so would be the easiest option but by the looks of it the most expensive. I ideally need something to prepare accounts, vat returns, etc and payroll. Any management accounting tools included would be a bonus

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've decided to go for vt and 12pay. Was the unlimited companies which really got me. And they're priced brilliantly too. Have been using 12pay already it's great.
I like it a lot but it is the only tax software I've used. Everything you need is there, supplementary pages, the various forms. I also like the on-line help and links to HMRC guides.
One very small thing, the liscensing was a different to what I'm used to. I bought the software in August '09 to submit all my clients returns, but I had to buy the new version in May '10, to do my first CIS based rebates. In hindsight it's fair enough I guess.
There's a 30 day free trial and a further 60 day refund which is handy.
Tony.
