Pre payments and Accruals

(1) I have Accrued £100 every month for the last two months for Telephone Now I have received a Phone bill for the last three months ( including this month) for £380

What do I do now?

(2) I have made a prepayment of £10000 for insurance, the insurance cover starts
on01/09/10 and ends in 31/08/11


What journals to pass now?

1)did you reverse them out the following month

if you did, just ensure all reversed and post the invoice as normal.


2) for the insurance, your prepayment should be 11/12 therefore you only want to show 1 months worth in September.

how are you paying the insurance? by monthly DD or all at once? if on monthly DD then do prepay, just post the monthly DD to insurances.

If paid all in one go, then credit insurances with 11/12 of the £10000 on the 30th Sept and DR insurances with 11/12 of the £10000 on the 1st Oct to begin with, then prepay accordingly each month thereafter.

Re the telephone bill, I'd up your next two month-end accruals (end Oct+Nov) to £130 to avoid another £100+£100+£180 uneven apportionment across the quarter.
