I installed Sage on a new networked W7 machine for testing and it was ok at first but then when it wanted to upgrade as a newer version had been used, the Sage.SBD.Platform stopped working due to a problem.......

Any ideas?

Did you try this ?
close sage go to C:\Program Data\Sage\SBD Software updates
delete the softwareupdate.dat fie and there is another one there too remove that. Then Re-apply all updates.

note, the program data folder is hidden so you will need to go to folder options in control panel and show hidden files and folders to see it

(do not forget to backup your data before...)

did not work.

I ended up calling Sage and downloaded their Sage SBD Desktop installer which in turn enabled me to download the upgrade - then all was good.
