Learning to use Sage
Permalink Closed

Following on from my previous, much longer, post could someone recommend a good and cheap course or book I can use to teach myself how to use Sage?

I plan to either buy Sage Instant or pay Barclays for their offer of Sage 50.  Also, I know Sage instant is just for one company but is it possible to use it if the company has two sites, like two shop locations?

Thanks
Kelly

Of course you can : there are two sites, but if there is only one company, there is only one bookkeeping.

However, that would be certainly easier with Sage 50 that manages departments.

Hi Kelly,

Have you tried looking into an ICB recommended course? You can find the list here: www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Where_To_Study

Might not be the cheapest option but they will get you to a good standard.

Sage Instant also has departments but not the facility to do departmental TBs, P&Ls or BSs

Where?

In Journal, no departments.
In Batch invoice (sales or purchases), no departments.
In New Invoice (customer menu), no departments...

But I have them in Sage 50 :)

Semsley, could you please tell me where do you see departments that allow you to manage two sites?

Hi Sheila,

I've got SAGE V12 instants and I can't find it on mine under nominals, I am intrigued to find out where they are.

I must admit I have never looked as I don't need them at the moment, but it always useful to find out things.

thanks,
Amanda

Hi Kelly,

I hope you are getting on well with Sage.  Although I would rather not blatantly promote myself, have you tried the Dummies books?

I am happy to answer any questions.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for your advice, I had actually already ordered your book and it arrived today!
I have been reading through and it's very easy to follow.

Hopefully 'Sage for Dummies' will be the only instruction I need.  biggrin

Hi,
Not sure if you have already worked out your training but I am still selling the Sage training workbooks level 1,2 & 3 for 240.00 Plus VAT. This is the same as sold on sage website including the 3 exams online.
Unless you were going to separate the pnl numbers, you would need a higher version than instant, please email if you require a quote.

If your interested (dont normally like to sell on forums) but I do 1 on 1 training in the workplace for sage instant and line 50 which is tailored to the needs of the trainee. So basically I show you where everything is and then we do some actual work to show you how to use it so you get used to the procedures and learn on the job.

Thanks for all your comments.
I am currently using the sage 50 software of a client on their laptop but I am finding it pretty straight forward with the help of my Sage for Dummies book.

Thanks for your help and if I get stuck later I'll be back!
