Transferring data back and forth from 2 Sage packages
Permalink Closed

Hi, I was wondering if I could transfer data from my clients Sage system, which is Instant plus into mine Instant V16 and then work on it and transfer the up dated back to their Instant Plus again.

Help needed asap please.

Thanks

Hi

I do transfer data back and forth from my clients Sage system, but we both use the same Sage 50 2009 accounts. I really think both systems have to be the same version, but it would probably be worth a phone call to Sage to ask.

Kind regards

Lynda

Hi Gemma

From what I am aware, you can transfer data between same version or
from older version to newer verson of Sage product.

But you cannot transfer from a newer version of Sage to older version of Sage.

If Clients instant plus is v16 too, then see no problems loading data from your Instant v16 to the client's Instant plus.

the only thing I am not sure is that whether you can upload data from Instant plus to Instant

I agree with Dalbir on this. Sage is backwards compatible with older versions to newer versions possible, but newer to older is not going to work.

Hi, I phoned Sage yesterday and as long as I have v16 of instant and my client has v16 of instant plus.  They are compatible.  I have tested this today and so far it seems to have worked.

Hope so as I using to do their vat return this week!!  Maybe Sage is a bit more useful that I thought!!

Will always work on same Versions however be wary on Sage instant as it comes out at a later date than 50 etc. so can cause problems. you can always upload a back up to newer version which is useful to read and pull reports but if you need to make changes it wont load back. Also, sometimes the Instant does not like the watermark and may have to be deleted prior to making a back up for client.

Does anyone know if this is the same for Sage 50? I would probably have a newer version than my clients.

Also would you have to transfer the data by memory stick?

Thanks

yes, the same applies. You can't move data back to an older version, but can always move forward.

memory stick, e-mail, burn to CD - whatever works for you.

dropbox works brilliantly too for back ups and files - can set up on various computers or invite others in to view same file. Link is: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTExOTc0ODU0OQ

You get 2gb Free space - if you invite people in and follow there step by step rules you get additional 250mb up to 8gb. Works brilliant especially when a back up is over 10mb and cannot be emailed over.

I agree with Donna about Dropbox. I use this every single day. I use Dropbox for everything and even bought more storage space (but was only $99) so now got up to 100mb. (I also use a portable storage drive that I do daily back ups on-just to be safe !!)

Also, I know this is going a bit off the subject here, well actually it sort of isn't, have you tried www.logmein.com. I use this now for a couple of clients and its great and its FREE !!
You need to download the application on your clients PC and yours. The clients PC needs to be switched on (monitor doesnt have to be though) and you can remotely log in to their computer. Its like being in their office in front of their computer but in your own home or office. It really is brilliant. This way no need for back up's and restores as you are working on their live system. The only thing you need to have is obviously internet connection.

I agree with Beverley about Log Me In - I have 2 clients quite far away, and this program is a godsend when they want something corrected. You can log in to their pc's remotely and fix!
