I want to take the ICB level 3 self assessment tax return exam, but I didnt buy the text book which they have on their site, has anyone taken that exam and passed it without the book? is it hard to pass? I also had a look on ICB site, theres no past paper on that exam, so I just need some help and advice here, thanks so much x
I did the exam before the book was available and managed to pass using the Self Assessment Tax Return Guide and the various help leaflets from HMRC website.
The guide is really difficult to get hold of now, with out registering as an agent with HMRC, so I would suggest the book may be the best approach. It will still probably be necessary to go through the HMRC website as well.
I didn't find the exam hard but did struggle with interpretation of some of the questions. You need 100% to pass and I think most people fall down on misunderstanding the various scenarios. I was lucky.
Thanks so much for your reply, I think I am mad really cuz I just booked that exam with ICB so I will have the exam paper this weekend. I had a look on HMRC site and I downloaded a few leaflets, so hopefully I will be fine
The assessment is a scenario, so if you have experience you might be able to do it without study.
However, it might cover a range of tasks, including ones you have not come across in your work, for example, directors, sole traders, partners, people with property etc etc.
Thanks for your reply, I am currently doing ACCA tax paper at the moment, so I thought maybe it would be ok for me to do the ICB exam now, and I also have got some leaflets from HMRC website, so hopefully I will be fine.
