Can anyone tell me how we are supposed to prepare for the payroll level 111 diploma if ICB cannot produce a mock paper.  They seem to like enforcing all these new exams on us without much practical help.
Also I dont have any payroll software of my own as work in other peoples offices but have downloaded 12 Pay Payroll,  Has anyone done the exam on this software.

I also need to do Level 3 computerised exam, I am using quickbooks and sage software but not used to doing some of the level 3 works such as accruals and prepayments and adjusting profit and loss.  It was a long time ago I did my manual exam.  Can any one suggest a good reference book to use?

Jill

Hi Jill,

Payroll is very hard from the awarding bodies point of view, which is why AAT have dropped it, and IAB payroll now costs over £200! (ICB is £30)

Also with most qualifications the awarding body releases past papers. This cannot be done with Payroll as it would be out of date.

However, the Payroll is a scenario assessment. It means that the questions are not asking for answers in a particular manner etc. You are given a company and asked to do their payroll.

The questions take the form as close to real life as possible. I.e. they would be like, on the 3rd Mrs Jones is given a pay rise, or is taken ill for two weeks. You just complete the payroll on software and send back anything the paper asks for (like total NI or Tax to be paid in one month etc).

Alternatively some course providers produce samples, but they do charge for this.

hope this helps

Hope that helps.

Hi James,

When did AAT drop payroll out of interest? I have sat both the main exams at a centre and just have to sit the Skills test to finish. I have not been told by premier that its no longer available?

cheers
Amanda

Hi,

Sorry this isn't information from AAT directly, but from colleges who are now putting their students through ICB instead.

It has been rumored for a while as Payroll is very hard from an awarding bodies point of view.

Just out of interested, how much did it cost for the examinations?
