Quickbooks Pro

Just thought I would put a note on the forum with regards Quickbooks Pro.  I have been working with a client to transfer their accounts to Quickbooks and in doing so have had to learn how to use it myself first before showing the 2 staff how to use it.confuse

Having used quite a few software packages I wasn't too concerned about the task but was pleasantly surprised by how good the software is.  Quickbooks was chosen over Sage due to costs mainly as multi company and users were required making Quickbook an outright winner.

Initial thoughts are if anyone is considering investing in it and are afraid to go the Quickbooks route - DONT BE!  Hopefully I wont be coming back in a couple of months with egg on my face.

Hi Jane,

I use QB PRO most of the time, and was recommended it by a friend. I like it cause it user friendly. It took abit of getting use to as I was use to sage instants, but like you said it is cheaper which is why I went for it.

I have had it now for a few years.

Cheers
Amanda

I bought a copy of quickbooks some time ago and never really got round to doing anything more than toying with it.

I may get it out again and have a really indepth look at it soon, when the work dies down a wee bit.

As you know I'm a sage fan but do use QB. The plus points for me with QB over Sage is in the reporting which has infinite options and is very easy to use (anyone who has tried to change or create new reports in Sage will find QB reports an absolute doddle). Also you don't have to go into invoices/statements to set the emailing options and can just email direct from them provided you've set an email address on the account. The other thing is when you email invoices/statements direct from Sage you do not have the opportunity to change any wording in the email whereas in QB you do.

What I don't like is that it doesn't show debit and credit in the personal accounts and I find it very hard to track/reconcile when there are just positive numbers and numbers with a minus sign in front of them. (But that could just be me - I like to see items in two columns (or more) rather than just the one. That leads me on to error correction - to my mind it is far too easy to correct/change transactions in QB and, if used by several people, this can be a major disadvantage as it is not easy to track the changes, whereas in Sage any corrections are very clearly shown in red in the audit trail.

Hi folks.

Is quickbooks multi-client out of the box?

How about the payroll software?

Yes it's multi company and it has integrated payroll (my client doesn't use the payroll though - uses Sage) at least the Pro 2008 I'm using does.

Quickbooks tends to be very expensive for payroll. I'm told that it is decent software, but the minimum charge is £40/month + VAT.

Thanks for the reply Sheila,

Thanks as well Tom, I was mulling over the idea of using one brand of software for both payroll and accounts - the synergy kind of appeals. But not at those prices.

I'll be sticking with 12pay.

That's good to hear. smile

But we hope that people don't just stick with us because of our prices.

As it happens the subject of QB integration arose on our forum the other day. We've had a look and we can generate IIF files fairly easily that you can read into QB to update the NL with the wages posting. Probably interesting, I suspect, for those with larger employers who want periodic management accounts as it saves the weekly/monthly hassle of working out the payroll journal. So that feature will probably appear in 12Pay in the next few months.

We already have a similar file-export feature for Sage and direct integration with KashFlow and SAP Business One.

Hi
I use QB Pro 2008 and enquired about the cost of adding the payroll feature, (they press the button at their end) and it was expensive, so I won't be going down that route.

I then rang up 12pay and had a very helpful chap on the end of the phone, so when I do eventually take on payroll clients its will be 12 pay for me. Also the QB support isn't great, infact isn't worth having!!!!

With the popularity of VT+ and as one of 12Pays biggest fans number1.gif , any way it can be exported or integrated to VT+. It would be an awesome combination.

Heres hopin'
