Hi Im scott, I have just recently completed level 2 manual bookkeeping and also Sage50, I come from a finance background but it seems that your only as good as your "last job~" in the UK so Im finding it hard to break the door down and get someone to allow me to get some practical experience with bookkeeping or junior accounts. I have read alot of posts that say tailor your CV to the job but how do you do that without telling lies?

My experience isnt in bookkeeping must my new skills are.......  any help???

thanks,
scott

I can only speak from experience but I always go for the honesty approach - either people like that or they dont but atleast you may find a like minded company to work for. Nothing worse than being caught out.

Hi Scott, employers want to hear the same as everyone else "what's in it for them". Wizz through my free bookkeeping course to get yourself into the logic of double-entry for a start (see below), then impress them with how much you know about their business (check their website out), and what you can do to help them. To know that last bit, you need to ask them (during the interview) what it is they are looking for.

I can tell you as an employer of 14 staff, it is the person that is the most important thing to me. Obviously they must know what they are doing! But if the person knows something about my business when I interview them, they already have a foot on the ladder.
