I was just wondering if a mobile hairdresser bought quite a few items, such as shampoos, from a wholesaler with her own personal money and then sold them for a profit at a local craft fair is this ok that none of it goes through the books? I wasn't sure because even though she has bought the items with her personal money she has got them at wholesale price so didn't know if the purchases and then sales had to be put through books or not?
This constitutes trade and as such needs to be disclosed. I think the confusion arises when there are genuine carbooters flogging their own second hand stuff (same for Ebay) in which case theres no problem, but buying stock and selliog at a profit is definitely trade.
To be fair, who the hell will know about it? I don't condone this sort of practice and as Rob says, it will constitute a trade as she has purposely bought the items with the intention to sell and make profit therefore what she is doing is illegal.
One of the main points is that its a "Craft Fair" whilst some people to attend from a hobby perspective, its also and good way for craft makers to flog their wares via their craft business.
Another is that it is too close the her own legit trade as a mobile hairdresser and right there its a losing arguement. ok if it was a product totally different, say like a lego set it could be argued, but not shampoo!!!
