I have decided to go for a change in direction in my life and have been looking into doing AAT level 2 as the first stage in this. As I am planning a move to the other end of the country at some point in the enxt few months a distance learning course with some flexibilty on timetable would be better for me. I have just met with a representitive of HLC and frankly their costs seem quite extortionate considering otehr providers websites have been quoting significantly lower costs. If anyone has an accurate idea of how much AAT training at lvl 2 would cost on average including any additional costs such as exam fees even just knowing a rough cost would be very helpful to me. I am also finding it very hard to find reliable reviews of providers and while money is an issue I dont want to end up with sub-standard training as a result of trying to save a few pennies. Does anyone have any advice on which providers are better or worse to study with?

I'm not doing AAT and have never used Home Learning College - but I would advise, in fact strongly advise, you search this forum for comments about HLC.

I had contacted them before finding this forum and what I have read on here has made me very keen to find another provider. I have just called Premier Training who are alot less heavy handed with their sales pitch and would love to know about other peoples experiences with them.

I got in contact with them (Premier Training) when I was considering AAT but I'm still doing ICB courses and it will probably be a long time before I do AAT - if I even bother doing it. Premier Training phone every few months to see if I'm doing it yet. So there's been no sales pitch from them. I got in contact with them because of the praise they have received on here regarding AAT courses.

It might be worth having a look at Eagle Education who seem to have good prices and I've read in the AAT forums are very good to deal with and are highly recommended. I don't have any experience with them myself though. Before you go with Home Learning college I would head over and do a search on the AAT forums too (find them at aat.org.uk - note the site is down right now but should be back soon!).
Just wanted to add to check what is included in the fees for any course too. You will have to pay student membership fees of the AAT and a fee for each exam on top of any course fees. Check if the course includes Sage as I believe this is required for some of the level 2 work now.

I am doing AAT Payroll with Premier and they are very good, am considering AAT Level 4 (was technicians) next, can't decide between them or my local college who do AAT Level 4 long distance learning. The advantage with my local college is I can get there for the exams easier, where as with premier I have to sit them at an external exam centre which is about 40 mins away. Premier are actually cheaper though by quite abit. And like Peasie said theres no hard sales at all which is good.

Hi Amanda,
How are you find the Payroll qualification? Is Premier Training good vaule for money or do they cash in on the fact that they are now the only distance learning provider of the Payroll qualification?
I'm thinking of signing up but after checking with the AAT I only have until the end of the year to complete it. Do you think I'd be able to pass both levels by then? Do I need to do both from your experience or could I just start at level 3?
Regarding the level 4 for AAT I would recommend you look at how much support you get for the project/Unit 10/or what ever they are calling the it now. I think that makes a really big difference. I went with open learning from a local college (cheaper than BPP but more expensive than Premier Training) and was very glad I did as I was able to go in to see the tutor about the project even though I was technically a distant student.
