IAB exam centres

I've been trying to find out from the IAB website and no luck so maybe someone can help me out here.  I'm interested in doing some of the IAB exams but am having trouble finding out where and when I can take them.  They can be taken at official centres, external cantres or you can try arranging your own at a pitman centre.

My query is this, has anyone had any trouble finding somewhere to sit IAB exams?  Has anyone gone down the Pitmans route, was it easy to arrange?

Also several of the qualifications state "or on an 'on demand' basis" but I can not seem to find out what this really means eith from IAB (no reply to my email yet) or training providers (say contact IAB!).

So any pointers would be great!

Thank you

I haven't tried the Pitman route  but I have done several IAB exams, initially in Reading which appeared to be my nearest centre ; however when it came to doing the tax exam (sadly now discontinued by IAB through apparently lack of entries) I had to go to London ; a 'phone call to IAB would probably give you a list of centres but not every centre is available at every session - number of candidates dictates when/if there will be a session. Also the extra fee for sitting as an external candidate can be quite high in proportion to the  exam fee itself. I commented on this to IAB but they said it reflected their expenses in providing centres/invigilators,etc.

The IAB is continuing the tax exam (as I now offer it via distance learning) - but they have not yet set the exam dates as they have been busy with all the other changes going on with the Educational system in the UK.

In February 2011, the IAB put a new list of External exam centres on the web site which I presume is up to date.
