How do I register my sage software please?
Permalink Closed

Hi, I have borrowed sage instants v12 from work to load on my computer,I have entered the serial number and key, there is now a message saying that I need to register the software - please can you tell me how I do this?

I also need to load on to sage an upgrade to version 16. Do I need to register the first version first before loading on v16?

Thank you

I think that you can register it from within the program. If not give them a call and they will be able to do it for you

I wouldn't register a "borrowed" copy of sage at all, it is against the licence to install on another machine.

What Sage have is an original key then whent the software is registered you get an updated (new) key. If you go to tools and upgrade program and put in the updated key you will be allowed to use the program for more then the x (can't remember how many) number of days you are allocated before registering. Your work should have this updated key. I always write the number down in the front of the manual for my clients in case they change computers and need to reinstall the program.

Hope that makes sense.

This is one of these type of questions most people avoid asking because it is just so dumb.

This applies to any program not just Sage.

Say I pay for a program and install it on one computer. I get the number from the company supplying the software and everything is fine. What is to stop me from then installing it on another computer using the same number?

I don't intend doing this to do them out of a sale but I am using the software on this computer to pass my exams. When I am using it for business purposes I no longer want it on this computer but on a new computer (not yet purchased) dedicated solely to business. I will no longer be using it on this computer so just wondering what happens in those circumstances.

I know windows operating systems are based on the computers configuration so it "knows" which computer it is installed on when connecting to Microsoft for updating purposes. Just wondering if accounting software applied the same principal.

When it says register I think it means as in register the software online.

Sage's website allows you to set up an account for support purposes. In the support area you register the software so it allows you access updates and support etc...

You can create an account if you wish, but if you dont tag the serial of the software too it, support is useless to you.

You can still use the software as normal.

You can also put your Sage login details within Sages weblink options.

As you have borrowed it to get a job done, I wouldn't do any of this unless the software hasn't been registered online already.

Hi Rachel

Hope you have sorted your problem out, if not check with work how many user licences they have purchased. Ours is a multi user so we are able to load it onto two computers at work and networked them to the server. We are then able to load the software onto our laptops which allows us to work from home when we need to.

As per previous posts, the website confirmation is an anit-fraud measure.

Do you require the programme just to practice and familiarise yourself with it? I belive there are some kind of student versions available, our college offered this facility when I was studying so perhaps you could ring sage and enquire??
