I have a client who is part of a partnership but has also received Maternity Allowance (2009/10). Can I just confirm if the maternity allowance income should be shown on her self assessment tax return? I have read that only SMP though an employer should be included not maternity allowance but wanted to double check.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Ann-marie
Further to my last reply, I have had a look through an SA and there is nowhere for it. I spoke to HMRC as well, and they confirm that because it is non-taxable, it does not have to appear on the SA. This applies for all non-taxable benefits.
Thanks for your replies. Yes I looked the the SA and couldn't see anywhere where this would go so I thought that this might be the case. I guess I have always understood that all income must be declared - but in this instance it's not the case.
