Hi

Im considering taking a home study towards Accounting but it seems to be a bit of a minefield as to what course to do.

Im looking at starting with Book Keeping qualification as I'm new to this industry (although do come from financial services so have a basic knowledge) but unsure whether to do ICB level 1 and work through with probably Kaplan as they seem to be the more popular option from the providers as per previous posts or go through Open University and work through, eventually i'd like to be to CIMA.

Any advice would be much appreciated smile

It depends on what you want to be. ICB are good for self employed bookkeeping, AAT for if you want to be employed (mixed with experience). If you're heading towards CIMA and beleive you can gain experience then personally I would look at the AAT route for the basic grounding in accounting and a good forerunner to CIMA or ACCA dependant on which route takes your fancy.

Thanks for the advice Steve, I dont think I'd become self employed to start with - I feel that I'd need experience before "being let loose" its good to have the knowledge but you still need practical to be confident in what you're doing. Would the OU course be a good start to open up either option??
