Quickbooks & VAT

Hi,

Anyone know how to enter a VAT only invoice into Quickbooks? (vat on a purchase, not a sale)

Thanks

Not 100% sure but have you tried entering a bill and putting the amount in the top bit then editing the vat box at the bottom right of the screen and entering the total amount there. I don't know whether this will work and can't test it as I only use qb for one client on their premises. I can do it in sage though!!!!

It wont let you edit the amount in the VAT box, it's very annoying. In Tas (which I use most of the time), a little box pops up and says 'is this a vat only transaction' and off you go. I don't like quickbooks!!

Hi,

Yes it lets you I have just tried it on my QB 2008 Pro. Go to SUpplier as normal enter in the total amount in the mornal place, then on the line enter 0.00 then go to the VAT box on the bottom and enter the amount of VAT I entered £1, my client is on Cash accounting, so I would then go into PAY suppliers and Pay the inv for it to show in my VAT return.

I assume it works the same for Standard accounting for VAt.

Hi Amanda,

don't know if you've seen it or not yet but there's someone asking about converting from Quickbooks to Sage. I saw it and thought, what bookkeepers out there really need is a bat sign in the form of Betty Boop for when they have problems related to quickbooks.

Anyway, quick, to the Boop mobile as the quickbooks problems seem to be coming in thick and fast today.... Your really going to have to set yourself up an 0898 quickbooks help line you know.

All the best,

Shaun.

That was easy! Don't know why I couldn't do that when I tried before!

Thanks a lot QB Expert!  I don't have too much experience in using this system so it's quite a learning curve at the moment!

Hi Amanda,

Are you going to be upgrading to QB 2010? I have just upgraded one of my clients to QB 2010 Pro and it all went surprisingly smoothly! lol It's not a whole lot different to 2008, but it sort of looks nicer...lol

I didn't like QB when I first started using it, but now I've had a bit more experience with it it's not that bad.

Why would anyone want to go from Quickbooks to sage? I've been using QB since 2004 and they have gone from strength to strength and now I run all bookkeeping in my practice on QB - be lost without it.

Best of all, got QB 2010 FREE from Barclays Bank!

Hi Pauline,

I have just upgraded on of my clients to 2010 haven't really used it much as I only go in there occassionally to help out if they are stuck but on the whole I thought it looked ok. I haven't upgraded at home still using Pro 2008 which I like. I haven't got the payroll at home as I think its too expensive for me and I am going to go with 12Pay instead, so therfore I didn't have to upgrade. I haven't got support on it anymore but to be honest they were only a call centre and pretty useless.

I have only got 2 on Sage instants and they are old versions and although I was trained on sage years ago I really like QB.

cheers.

Which VAT box are you trying to edit...are you talking about Quickbooks?  Did you go to the VAT Menu - Adjust VAT due?

Hmm. I used Quickbooks for a while for one client - must have been 2000 to 2002 ish, and in all that time I thought it was bloody awful and persuaded them to switch to Sage. For a long time, I considered Quickbooks to be a swear word.

Perhaps it's improved since then. :)
