I have been practising Bookkeeping and Payroll with sage line 50 on my own for 2+ years now and have just achieved my IAB level 2 certificate in computerised bookkeeping and payroll with sage line 50 i am waiting for my Level 3 Exams in june.
I wish to work on my own in the future from home, but need to work for someone for a year or two before. I am looking for someone i coiuld work under for a while, even if i am not paid. I know I am very good at bookkeeping and payroll with sage line 50 but still need someone to say so.
have you considered temping for a while to broaden your experience and make you more of a sellable commodity?
Try Reed. They seem to have the market pretty cornered around my area (the Midlands). Don't know who the market leader is in Glasgow though.
After saying that though I know that there are issues at the moment. The Reed site shows the number of applicants for each position and last week when an accounts assistant position came up in Wolverhampton the site showed 935 applicants within two hours!
That said though, if you register with them they may come to you before advertising the roles and what do you really have to lose!
Once you've had one position it makes the next one easier to find as (as you've already sussed) the experience puts you immediately ahead of those with only accademic knowledge. Also, moving site to site in temp roles you pick up far more than working for a single employer and there's more chance that one of the roles may become permanent if you want it to be.
Also, if you have a confident telephone manner don't discount credit control work as in a proper Credit Control environment there is an awful lot of relevant experience to be had.
all the best,
Shaun.
