Car Write Down Allowance
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone

I have my first client after passing my self assessment but I am in need of a little guidance..My client was both employed and self employed during 2010-2011, he had to use his own car for business purposes whilst employed, the company did pay for the running expenses so I don't need to claim anything for fuel but I need to do a calculation for the write down of his car, the question is do I write down the car for both employed and self employed as one figure and then proportion for business use??

Many thanks

I think that the answer you're looking for is yes, you only claim for the period of self employment.

Hi BudgetB

So you don't think I can claim any WDA whilst using his car when employed even though he travelled over 5000 miles during his employment with them?

Employees can't claim capital allowances, and you said that the employer had been giving him expense payments relating to the car, which should therefore be reimbursing him at whatever level they have agreed for his car usage. Have a look at page 16/17 of this;
