Hi site admin,

where recent posts should be it now says User Details. This gives a huge window to say whose birthdays are coming up and a ist of only the last five recent posts.

As you appreciate people who answer questions are not on the site all of the time. We scan to see what the latest questions are and who hasn't received an answer yet.

I know that people could go into each area of the forum but whose got the time to go digging through eleven sub forums to see what outstanding questions people have?

Could I suggest that the recent posts tab is reinstated and birthdays get moved to somewhere like the calendar otherwise the site becomes pretty much unusable as I can see that many peoples posts will just end up going unanswered.

Basically, please put the site back as it was as these changes lose the main functionality of the site (namely the ability to answer peoples questions).

Kindest regards,

Shaun.

P.S. also on the last five posts part of the page it doesn't tell you whether anyone has already responded to the post. Again something that is very useful for spotting people who have inadverantly been missed. I always tend to check those one's out first before checking other peoples responses to questions as at least those ones are not sitting feeling that they are being ignored.

I don't think the change has been deliberate and more likely a glitch in the system. I had the "User details" in place of the "Recent posts" but after clicking about the "Recent posts" return to its rightful place. Unfortunately it has now gone back to "User details" so I'm thinking it is a glitch.

At least I hope this is the case.

Hi Sue, Hi Peasie,

I think that without that facility the usefulnes of the site is severly compromised. Fingers crossed this is just an short term glitch.

In the short term however, I've found a workaround in order to continue using the site.

I've been through my history and found a way to get recent posts up.

you need to cut and paste this link :

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/forum.spark?aBID=106474&p=35

Unfortunately it means that you keep having to refresh to that page rather than there being anything available on the site so I've set it up as a quicklink on my toolbar and I hit that everytime that I want to refresh the page.

Hope that helps until site admin can get this sorted.

All the best,

Shaun.

Many thanks Bookkeepers and happy Sunday to you as well.

by the way, rather than just keep refering to you as site admin is there a first name(s) that we can call you? Seems that we're all old freinds on here so seems a little rude to just keep refering to you as site admin.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi All

Further to our recent post, we're pleased to report the 'Recent Posts' button is back!

We updated some HTML site code earlier this morning and it appears to have caused an issue with the menu settings. All appears to be working correctly now.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience caused. However if any member experiences any further issues please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The Book-keepers Forum Support Team

Hi,

from this thread you will probably guess that my #1 suggestion will be that we don't lose the recent posts function or the number of replies / views shown against each post.

it might also be a good idea to add that when you launch the new site not to remove any of the existing posts / threads that have been built up as you've acquired a fair old tome of knowledge on this site that to my mind is an irriplacable resource for bookkeepers.

The list of all users is a nice touch (sure that liking that is nothing to do with me being in pole position!).

At the moment I think that many people use google to search the site but I could be wrong. Maybe the search facility could be lifted off the toolbar to a standalone area somewhere above and put the recent posts back there as I can see the reasoning behind the user details tab just not as a replacement for recent posts facility.

To me (others may disagree with this) birthdays would make more sense on the calendar rather than on the user details section but I don't know how difficult that would be to implement.

Good luck with the launch of the new site. Look forwards to putting names to people.

kind regards,

Shaun.

P.S. thanks for reinstating the recent posts button

Hi Shaun,

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions. Duly noted!

The new site will retain the recent posts button (we find it just as useful and a time saver!). We can also confirm that all historic threads and posts will remain in place.

The new forum will still be based on the same platform, so the functionality and the way a member uses the forum will not change. Our aim is to add more resources to the site which we hope will be of benefit to all book-keepers.

We're aiming to implement the changes on the 1st June (hopefully before). So far we're on track but we will of course keep members informed.

Again many thanks.

Kindest regards,

The Book-keepers Forum Support Team

I'm not sure if I can cope with this... I'm struggling to find time to spend on this and other social media sites - and without the recent posts facility its too time consuming to use the site.

I'll have to see what happens....

Hi Frauke,

use this link.

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/forum.spark?aBID=106474&p=35

bookmark it then set it up as a quick link on the toolbar

It refreshes the recent posts page each time.

Just means clicking your toolbar rather than the sites to access recent posts.

All the best,

Shaun.
