Sage Payroll Upgrade
Permalink Closed

Hi,

Could someone give me some advice. I am currently using Sage Payroll 2010, we have recently made some staff reductions and now only have 15 staff.

I have had a Sage salesperson on the phone saying that I need to renew Sage cover and upgrade, the cost of which is more than we previously paid to have our payroll processed externally.

Will I need to upgrade every year and continue with the support package? If so I will have to look at an alternative solution for the company.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Jacqui

I personally nolonger use Sage, for the reasons you mention. While I have no compalints about the software, I cannot justify the sort of outlay they almost dictate, particularly has I need more than one licence.

Problem with Sage is, they are market leaders, and market as a premium product (compared to who?), with the premium price tag to go with it (and a strong sales force)

Last year I opted for 12Pay, and haven't looked back since.

Once familiarised with the software (it's quite intuitive) it is at least as easy, if not easier as Sage to use.

http://www.12pay.co.uk/Features.aspx

Takes you to the general features of the software, and you can download a free version, which you could try out (it is only limited by the number of times you can print payslips) but at £54+ for the basic paid version, I rate it as good value.

HTH

Bill

Thanks Bill.

I will have a look at 12pay as an alternative.

In order to obtain "updated" software for each year end you need to purchase Sage cover but you do not need to upgrade.  Sage support of a product expires after 5 years then you do need to upgrade because they will no longer produce the yearly updates to the older software.

However, like Bill I am gradually transferring my Sage payroll clients to 12 Pay.

That particular package is very new in the UK market and I haven't heard any user reports from them yet. They are marketing quite strongly but aren't particularly cheap. (I suppose the marketing is expensive and someone has to pay for it)

Most of the purely free options don't work out as free unless you have a tiny number of employees. Or they have other limitations (in our software for example the free licence won't print payslips after the trial period), or for example they have a VERY premium rate phone line for support.

I am having the same issue with sage. I had my version for 5 years and now I don't have any choice except upgrading ... and paying.

How did it go the transfer of your customers to 12pay? What other free solutions are there in the market? Does it compensate to pay for payroll software if there are good free solutions in the market?

Do you know this payroll software? Is it any good?
