Moneysoft Money Manager

Hi

I know that the subject of software is done to death but it is such a minefield!

I wondered if anyone had any experience of Moneysoft Money Manager. It seems cheap at only £95 but it does seem to fulfill what I need as I only have a handful of clients.

I would welcome anyones advice or suggestions

Hi Valerie,
I am using Moneysoft since over 5 years, and I am more than happy to keep it, I have more than 10 clients and one of then have over 30 employees, no problem, it run year end payroll, from me go for it, the only thing you need to keep the yearly up date or you cann't save the changes any more.

Hi

Many thanks for your replies. I notice I also need the final accounts element to enable me to do the year end accounts.

Abd, you mention the payroll. Does it have payroll incorporated as I do currently run 12pay for that

Are the people responding to this talking about Moneysoft MONEY Manager or Moneysoft PAYROLL Manager? I think the two may be being mixed up.

Oops, a case of read in haste repent at leisure! Yes I just latched onto the Moneysoft name and was talking about Payroll, don't know about Money.

I guess this takes you back to square one - sorry Valerie.

No problem

I've taken the plunge anyway and opted for it.

I'm sure I'll be letting you know how I get on (or ranting if we don't get on!)

Hi, i missed this post. I find it very easy to use, but then you should have seen the in-house program we were using before! Its great for VAT and you can manipulate and delete data at a stroke. I think it is fine for sole traders.

The tax calculator is ok but it got superceded by SA software. They've not updated MM/FA since 1998, which is a shame and i speculate that the reason is that they weren't charging enough. The £95 is a one-off until / if they ever upgrade. I think we've paid for one upgrade (about £35) since 1993, and bought Final Accounts which is now about £50; again a one-off. It doesn't cope with limited companies as well as I'd like and I understand why many chartered accountants don't rate it.

As mentioned, their Payroll program very often comes top of the pops and they're only able to do this by charging each year.

The reports are ok for the smallest of clients but I prefer to export them to Excel to smarten them up and type up separate profit and capital allowances computations. Tip : the century gothic font is the most attractive to my eye.

They had a database / invoicing / word processor called Office Manager but stopped supporting it about 3 years ago and it is no longer available as a download. IMO it was the weakest of the suite and the only one difficult to use; but removing it doesn't fill me with confidence that they will ever upgrade Money Manager/Final Accounts.

All in all good value.
Tim

Thanks Tim

So far I have found this really easy to use and it seems to be doing everything I want.  In comparison, I have a new client on Sage and I'm finding it difficult to get to grips with. I can see the benefits in its complexity but for the clients I have it seems a little overkill.

From my point of view, a really reasonably priced product, doing the job well.

Good, I'm glad.   I haven't looked at Sage for years but never liked it when I did.   I think the main reason it is popular is because it is popular; if you know what I mean.   They got their foot in the door with the colleges and accountants in the 1980s and people don't like change.   Also, there is an element of self-interest in the re-sellers commissions that are knocking about.

If you're ever stuck with MM, please don't hesitate to ask.   About the only thing I've never really mastered the 'Budget' feature, so let me know if you do.

best wishes,

Tim

Money Manager - possible 64 bit solution
Permalink Closed

I'm going to resurrect this (again) as I was sounding like a stuck record over on another post.   I'm posting a link to do with Shaun's discussion :

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t43689388/convince-me-that-i-dont-need-sage/

I don't understand a word of it but this link could be a solution to Shaun's 64 bit problem with Money Manager -  at least it says 'solved' at the top, and may be useful to others over the coming years.

If it isn't/doesn't solve the problem then I apologise for sending you on a wild goose chase, again.   Hopefully there will be a solution in future downloads from Moneysoft.

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1752736.html

kind regards,

Tim
