Can I still file a SA online for 06-07?
Permalink Closed

Hi, I have a client (just recently engaged my services) who has SA returns needing filed from 06 to date (don't ask).

I filed his outstanding returns from 07-08 online, but couldn't get the 06-07 one filed via the HMRC software.  I looked at external filing software, and as I only have the one and don't want to spend a fortune, called Andica as they only charge about £15 or something, but they have said that HMRC have closed off their online filing for that year.

I filed a paper return, sent it recorded delivery and guess what..... it is lost.  It was signed for mid April, and after waiting for the time limits to pass before the HMRC would put a trace on it, have now been told I have to wait about 3 weeks before they get back to me.  My client is due a refund of about £5000 due to an overpayment in CIS in that year, so am trying to find an alternative method of filing if I can to get the surcharges and fines cleared plus his money back.

HMRC online helpdesk just keep repeating to buy external software, they couldn't tell me if their own online filing systems have closed off or not for that year.  Nice to know that staff are well trained then.

I do have a copy of the return, but it is such a pain in the ass to fill out so would rather file online if I can.  Anyone know about this?

I don't think so - I had a new client in January who had been saving my details for a rainy day, which happened when HMRC turned up at his door for tax returns for 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010! Did the last 3 online, but I don't think I could do 2007 & it had to be posted. HMRC didn't lose it, but it did take a while to be processed. I use Iris software if that helps.

Good luck.

If you were able to file it online - there would be the option to do so as long as you are authorised as agent.

I would be very surprised if you could file it online.

April is not long - the last time I sent a paper copy return it was several months before the HMRC even logged receiving it! It was finally processed about 7 months after I sent it.
