Just wonder, how i could put sage line 50 on a network. 2 of us use sage line 50 and work in the office. theres one more person using it from a different place. whats the best option to put line 50 on a network and the 3rd person could access it remotely from a different place. At the moment its all backups to and fro. please share your experience and thanks for reading.

It should be relatively easy to set Sage on a network and add users (if there are enough licences). Sage suggest installing the software on each PC, and accessing the data through the network drive. I have just had a look around the Sage support site and it appears that there is specific network version.

If you have access to AsKSage online, then articles 17786 and 7243 may be of help

Having experienced remote access to Sage, all I can suggest there is avoid it if possible, unless it's for occasional small amounts of work. Remote access can be extremely slow, and causes all sorts of problems with printing things like invoices and reports, and will probably not print to the remote users local printer.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply. Sage line 50 has been set up on individual pc's. How do we go from here to put this on a server or use the networking option?

thanks

Had another look at the AskSage website.

To install on the server PC, it is just a case of inserting the disc in the drive, let it autorun, then follow the install instruction.

Select default setting (custom if prefer to change things). The default settings are:

Destination Folder - C:\Program Files\Sage\Accounts
Program Folder - Sage Accounts - This is the option for Sage Line 50 2007 on your Start menu.

If you are upgrading make sure the destination folders are the same.

Hopefully when it was installed on the client PCs it was set up correctly, that's when you use the Netsetup file.

The instructions run to several pages on AskSage, which you should be able to access. If you can, then it would be better to print off the full instructions. Its article 13035, if you enter that in the search facility, you should get it.

I was going to copy and paste but A) Its a large amount, and B) they are copyright, so thought best not to smile

HTH

Bill

Hi Raj

Sorry, can't really expand on what I have already said.

If you are using a Sage product the best I can suggest to take you further, is the AskSage website https://support.sage.co.uk/default.aspx?page=1, which you should have access to when the software was registered. If not create an account.

Another option is to sign up to the Sage forum http://sageforum.co.uk/index.php, which may have the answers, or at least you could pose the question there.

Having had a look at the Sage forum, there are few comments there about various set up operation that may need altering (installing on server PC first, drive mapping), so if you are not confident about your IT skills, it may be best to get a local friendly IT guy in to set it up for you.

Hi Raj,

I would agree with Bill, if you are not very IT ilterate you should get someone in to help you. Sage is difficult enough to set up on a network as it is, even if you do know what you are doing. It should definitely have been set up on the server PC first and then installed on each PC you want to run it on (provided you have the right number of licences) and netsetup run and then you map it to the Accdata folder on the server.

Running on a network can be slow depending on how large your data file is and how many people are using it at once.
