This isn't really a referrals sort of site. It's more technical issues and supervisory body type discussions.
On that note, are you with a supervisory body?
You mention exeperience, is that in bookkeeping or accounts? We have both bookkeepers and accountants on the site.
I really must take a look at twitter sometime as my children are always talking about it.... Then again, getting me to write anything in less than half a page is normally a major achievement.
Anyway, hope that you find what your looking for on the site. We're a pretty freindly bunch and always happy to help out where we can.

It's a knowledgable group and there's always someone helpful to share or advise. I always think tax is a highly complimentary opening for our line of work and may help you reach new clients.
I guess what Shamus is asking is who are you registered with for ML? All bookkeepers in the UK who "freelance" must be registered for ML if they provide any type of bookkeeping services.
In fact anyone who provides any type of "accountancy/company/money/trust service provider" has to be registered. Its a pretty broad discription and includes pretty well anyone that is involved in financial matters of any type on a freelance basis.

my original post was being inquisitive it wasn't about MLR. Lots of people join the site and they come in lots of different flavours. ACCA, CIMA, AAT, ATT, IAB, ICB, we've even got one or two ICAEW's on here. I was only wondering if you belonged to any specific group.
There is no necessity to belong to any supervisory body which is where my next question came from about whether you were more bookkeeping or accountancy.
This is a very freindly and open site. People are inquisitive about newcomers as they want to know something about the person that they are talking with so that answers can be geared towards the person asking the question. If in response to my original post you had said that you were an ICAEW member in practice then my responses to any further questions would be worded differently to if you had said you were AICB.
If you've read anything else into the answers I think maybe you need to reread them as you're reading them differently to others.
The last response of mine simply asked for you to expand on an answer that was four characters long. It may have been self explanatory to you but you need to put all answers into context.
Anyway, you might want to re-edit that last response of yours which does not come accross at all well.

I apologise, the response wasn't to you, but again if I've read anything wrong I will retract...I'm not in a group and thinking of doing my ICB..but YLB-HO's was about MLR assumingly....I will just retract...apologies
I think from reading Frauke's post she misunderstodd what I was actually asking as well so I'll put it down to my not explaining myself properly in my first welcome post that caused the misunderstanding.
If you do decide to go ICB and don't want to use a training provider I'll dig out some old posts for you where we cover some good books that will get you through to AICB at a fraction of the expense... That is if you feel comfortable without a training provider. Some people like the more rigid structured learning approach rtahert than the freeform reading and doing old exam papers.

Hi, that would be great as I've been looking at training providers and oh my goodness me....How do i go about doing it though without a training provider please? thanks
bit busy at the moment but I've put this on the office white board so if you check in about this time tomorrow I'll have sorted out either links to the old posts or alternatively a list of books that should get you through to at least AICB at a fraction of the cost.

check out this thread which lists some books that would help someone who has already completed the OU B190 course.
As you've already got a background in bookkeeping I think that the list would also be applicable as a starting point for yourself. (some of it, espechially the AAT units 1-4 will just be pre exam revision).
I'll still have a think about it overnight though and try and hone it down to a few books to just get you through to AICB. (Your probably also going to need to get your hands on a copy of Sage 50 (possibly the 180 day trial version?) or possibly Sage Instants).

Sorry to misunderstand. As Andrina asked for referrals for business followed by shauns questions .... Don't forget to include in your welcome a bit about your history, whether you are with a supervisory body, what your aspirations are, etc. The link looks as though you may be chartered? We only have a couple of those on the site at the moment and they haven't posted for a while so if you are there's a niche advice line just waiting with your name on it!

Thank you to all your 'welcomes' and advice on ICB. Well i've joined as a student because my AAT is too old to get me exempt on that basis..what a bummer..anyway now pooping myself because I have to do some learning again for a new format .. probably do me good, as you can get a bit stuck in your ways! lol god knows when I will fit it all in with children, husband, house, playing at the park, sunbathing etc etc..Oh and the small business of that thing called 'work'...any help pointers would be VERY much appreciated!.
