First post here, although I have lurked as I have found the answers to many questions through this forum.
I am the book keeper for my husbands limited company; I can sign cheques up to £1000 but over that value my husband has to counter sign. Really cross with myself because I forgot to ask him to counter sign a cheque this morning before he left for work which is quite urgent - its actually his salary cheque Would it be OK if I split the amount into 2 smaller cheques which I can then sign without the need for him counter signing.
In this instance you are a related person (wife) so I would say that there is nothing amiss with this... Well, unless it's a divorce and your emptying the account £999.99 at a time which is actually theft as the money belongs to the company. (any good bank would pick up on that though and stop all of the cheques).
Short answer is that two cheques in this emergency scenario should be fine.
kind regards,
Shaun.
