Im keeping my fingers crossed for the deployment of water cannons, it'll be like watching its a knockout, especially if they get Stuart Hall in to do the voice over.
If you hear of any gangs congregating near a carpet warehouse intent on looting let me know - otherwise bring on the water cannons. I wonder how this is being reported in other countries. Rioting in various cities in England. "What are they protesting about" ?
Not sure.
It is pure thievery - nothing else. They are not angry at the police. It isn't motivated by racial tensions. Some are blaming unemployment yet those up in court today had jobs or were students.

There is a carpet shop, but unfortunately it's not Carpet Warehouse. Dya think its the rent-a-mob who follow England football team
I put it in small letters because I just meant a carpet shop (as you say) - but you don't really get carpet shops as by their nature they tend to be bigger.
If it is the rent-a-mob they won't be following the England team tomorrow night. Feel sorry for any Dutch fans that came over.

Fortunately, it is on the high street we left a few years ago and it appears they were all heading for central Manchester. The client who told me is closed today, but I can't see any news that they marauded through the suburbs there.
Makes me glad I'm not there any more though. I believe they have looted in Wolverhampton and Brum too.
Police around here seem to be a bit more on the ball than in London though and they do actually make arrests on the spot then follow it up with fun filled days of kicking the doors down of those they suspect were involved. I assume that manchester is the same with more traditional Gene Hunt / West Midlands serious crime squad approach to policing!
The streets of Cannock seemed to have serious numbers of police on them (disproportionate to the size of the place) but thankfully no rioters. Just a few groups of youths looking very bemused by all of the attention that they were getting.
I think that the worst issue from people in our line of work is that we may fall victim by accident rather than design as our are the businesses above the shops and if they burn those then we get caught in the fall out.
I'm in negotiation at the moment over offices but thankfully they are in a big Victorian place off the high street. Thinking that if there's a fire there it will be down to victorian wiring rather than looters.
All the best,
Shaun.

I was watching Sangat TV in the early hours of this morning. They were driving about Wolverhampton and there were groups of youths (Sikhs) standing about on street corners. But they weren't rioting - they were defending the place. They were also defending a religious centre - I don't think those on the tv were too keen to show them with hockey sticks though.
There was a clip posted on Youtube and someone came up with the comment " ******* ethnics coming to our country, protecting our communities". Judging by their accents they've been in the country a few years.

We're pretty safe in Scotland too. The rioters couldn't get on with each other long enough to do any damage. Religion and football would come into it and it would all fall apart.
No idea what is going on in Lewisham. Supermarkets are still not opening 24hrs, had to drive to Kent this am to get some food for the kids and was told Tesco Lewisham had to close because of trouble last night. My eldest 5 yrs was driven home through it on Monday, her friend's dad had no idea what was happening, now she and her sister can't sleep they're terrified, they've seen all the shops boarded up and police everywhere. I was in Lewisham yesterday and there was police everywhere, last night 15 riot vans in convey at about 5pm coming south from east London. Too close to home, all the trouble on Monday was at the bottom of the road!
Sunday night we went out for a meal and saw some what we assume police riot vans in convey (never seen them before looked a bit like small army trucks, going west heading for central London).
Only know of 1 client in Hackney who has been closed, they don't know if they have been damaged, they said something about the next street to them, they are staying away at the moment.
I thought we would be ok with the large police station, thankfully didn't hear the helicopters last night.
The last few days have been shocking, at least last nights rain kept the toe-rags indoors and fingers crossed it's taken the "wind out of their sales".

Here's a thought then. Don't use water cannons to blast rioters away - just spray it in the air to soak them. This isn't a flippant remark it is a genuine thought. I don't think it was a coincidence that the rioting stopped when it was raining.

Funny you should say that. Regular robberies and general decline were the reasons we got out of there. Being above a Co-op store and beside the CIS, they tried everything; windows, doors, tunneling through the floors, ram-raiding. Send the lot of them to Devil's Island!
