I'm probably about to lose my only client because I'm too bloody honest! (They have asked me to post something in a completely fictitious manner that favours them a few quid with regards to VAT - I'm not comfortable doing it).

Anyone got any clients going spare - I'll need a new one soon!

Hi Maria,

Clients hey....who'd have them! If you're not comfortable doing it then you should explain this to them and the reasons why. It may only be a few quid now, but if you do it once they could then start asking you to do it with larger transactions. Good luck, and stick by your principles!

Keep at it, Maria. Sadly you get lots of rotten apples trying to pull a fast one when you start. Quality of clients goes up as your reputation grows. When good clients come along who respect good bookkeeping, time will fly. Good luck Dalbir

You may be surprised by your client if you say no!

I had one client who had done her own posting of her expenses. When I reconciled the bank account, I then turned the the cash - and there were too many expenses! When I asked her why - she admitted she had entered many of the bank expenses a second time to reduce her profit! I told her it was wrong and HMRC are not stupid, and asked her what did she want me to do? She asked me to delete all of them. Shes never done it since and has become a model client!

Cheers all. Turns out it was legitamete afterall, it was just the way it had been described to me by director 1. After saying I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it, director 2 decided to give me the full story, copy emails and all so not just made up. If they had told me all that in the first place the awkwardness could have been avoided!

As Stardoe says....clients, hey!
