Charity Accounts - qualifications/courses?
Permalink Closed

Hello, I have taken on a bit of bookkeeping for a charity and also will be their treasurer. This is on a volunteer basis to get a bit of charity accounts experience.

Does anybody know about any qualifications for charity accounts? or any courses?

They have an accountant and I'm not looking for a fully qualified accountants course for it but just to know how to take it up to the passing over to the accountant stage.

Be very gratefull for any advice/ideas.

Thanks

Hi Rachel,

Most of the courses seem to be aimed firmly at a quite senior accountant level.

However, maybe worth viewing if you haven't already is the guidance on the charity commission website.

See this page :

http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/Charity_requirements_guidance/ccpubs3.aspx

And also this one

http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/Charity_requirements_guidance/Accounting_and_reporting/default.aspx

I appreciate that neither of them are actually courses as such but my impression from your message is that you are more interested in gaining the knowledge than bits of paper (although getting both is always nicer). So hope that those links are of some help.

Kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi Rachel

Not exactly a course as such, but it may be useful.

Hi,

You can also find some information on the website of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations www.ncvo-vol.org.uk

I don't think you will find any qualifications at bookkeeping level, it would be hard to a training provider to sell it as there isn't much income they can promise to you you will earn once you would complete a course...
