What transactions would be needed to write off money a company owed a Director?

Dr Directors loan

Cr Other income

Would expect that would be the double entry.

Why is the company writing off money owed?  I expect the director has agreed for it to be written off?

Mark

The figure is a smallish amount and the Director actually died several years ago. It's just never been dealt with and doesn't make any sense for it still to be there.

So the executors of the Director's estate have not enquired about the loan. I do not think that I would be writing it off.

Did the director own shares in the company and what happened to them after his death.

I wonder why the money wasn't paid to his estate?

It is only a small amount (£500) that has sat in the accounts for 11 years (he died about 6 years ago). The original loan was from 18 years ago and all but £500 was repaid to him. The books were kept manually back then and the Directors loan was always shown in the Final Accounts as a total amount for three Directors (Grandfather, Father & Son). The shares he had were distributed to his grandsons (both Directors). It has only been recently when finding out how the total on the Directors Loan Account was made up that this figure has appeared.
