Can somebody tell me how many lessons there are in the ICB Self Assessment course? It says on their web site it will take 6 - 12 months to complete....?

I did it within a few weeks. I just bought the book, had a read through (answering various questions) then did the assessment.

It's not really lessons. It's a 92 page book split into various chapters. It explains some of the theory, shows it in practice and has some knowledge checks.

At least it was last year.

I would add that I don't think the book on its own is enough. You will need to download the various booklets, leaflets and worksheets from HMRC as well. It was easier when I did it as they would post out the various leaflets to you but now they prefer you to download them. There was also the "Self Assessment Tax returns Guide 2010" which was basically a book with all the forms inside.

When it talks about 6-12 months maybe they are talking about a complete beginner - I'd guess that a lot of the material was already known to Kris so it wasn't too much new stuff to learn.

It's something they used to send you, but now you have to look for and download the individual sections off their website.

This has nothing to do with self assessment but what's that little icon on the topics page that appears to the right of my thread Self Assessment... I'm curious. It looks like a little bomb or something lol

I don't know what it is a picture of. I think it's just to indicate it was you that started the thread should you ever need to look through the forums again for threads you started.

It's a tag. If you click on it you can assign keywords to the thread. I suppose its to make searching easier or something like that.
