CPD Points for IAB
Permalink Closed

Hi all

I am renewing my membership with IAB and have just realised that I haven't kept a record for CPD. disbelief I will have to try and compile one based on memory but I am finding it difficult to determine what is actually acceptable as this is my first year completing the form. I have not completed any additional courses this year (for the first time) so this will make it harder.confuse

I have been working in conjunction with a local accountant. He has been outsourcing work to me since 2009 and now is actually directing queries directly to me, cutting out the middle man so to speak. One type of client has been the rental income investigations as there have been quite a few over the past few months. Would this be considered CPD as 'reactive work'?

Can anyone give examples of CPD work. I am aware that where possible evidence must be provided.

I have also applied for HMRC courses twice this year but they are not being run in my local area, so that is also out as an option.

Any help would be appreciated..

Lou

CPD is about ongoing learning.

This can include reading, or research. If you have had to do any research specific say on the HMRC website for the rental income investigations, then this can count toward CPD and is infact "Pro-active". (Keeping a copy of the webpages is evidence). Research for this forum can count as long as its recorded properly and then it would be "Reactive" as it is not specific to your work.

Even as an example: the computer software you use is updated, and there are new facilities you do not have before - going through the updates and trying it out - can count towards CPD as long as you record the details properly and can evidence it by printing out the "help or whats new" information

Doing courses, or attending seminars just makes it easier to keep a  record what you do!

Hi Lou,

I have met a couple of IAB members at ICB meetings, they have been told the IAB accept these CPD points.

It is at the end of the year so quiet in terms of local meetings, but you can keep an eye on the ICB events page for anything coming up in your area for the new year: http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/myICB/events.aspx

Some events are member only, but some are open for everyone.

Thank you for your replies. I constantly am researching online and using study books. I am also an avid reader of this forum. I have been mentoring a student studying business with accounts that is helping me with data entry so I can gather evidence that I have passed on. I suppose its simple when you think about it logically. I assumed that courses of some sort were expected Can I just add what a great, helpful and friendly forum this is. I generally am an observer but it has helped me in so many ways, during the set up of my business and constantly today. I hope that my knowledge and confidence can grow so that I can support other bookkeepers/ accountancy providers in the future. Thanks again Lou
