I'm thinking of putting down that i am bi-lingual on my C.V. my first language being English and that i can speak some Accountancy. Why can't my text books and exams be written in laymans terms? Do Accountants wander around the office speaking this way? what a strange world i have stumbled upon. In all seriousness, the maths, layout, and problems do not phase me but the wording for some of the questions by golly!
From experience accountants don't speak in accountant but they certainly write in it.
Wait untill you come over to the dark side young padawan and start reading accounting (and possibly audit) standards in their original form!
On the layout front. I'm currently having more difficulty with that than the learning to speak and write accountantise.
Try doing pro formas for Cashflow statements and calculation of defined benefit pension plans. Seems that every time I miss something out at the mo. (cashflows on consolidations were always my bugbear anyway to the point where if I open an exam paper and main questions on Cashflows I might as well just get up and go home).

But I don't think I'm alone there!

it's a language taught almost exclusively by the man down the pub.
HMRC charge a fee for translation services which they classify as interest, penalties and surcharges.
