What should be on a valid VAT receipt?
Permalink Closed

Hi Guys,

i was wandering if anyone could give me the official answer for what should be included on a vat receipt for you to be able to claim the vat back on it?

date and vat reg number obviously, but does it also need to specify the vat rate i.e. 20% charged? I have been searching the internet and cant get a definitive answer!

Many thanks

Kim

VAT Notice 700 section 16.3 shows what should be included on a valid VAT invoice.  It does include the rate of VAT being charged.

Almost forgot - you can also have less detailed VAT invoices, which are discussed in section 16.6.
