I could really use a good text book to work through on tax - personal, business and corporation tax.

Looking on the ICB website there's a Self Assessment Tax Returns manual, but it's pretty expensive at £60.00.

Would anyone recommend this, and if not, is there something you would?

My other thoughts were to purchase a similar book from somewhere like Kaplan or BPP?  They're only £18-£20 but will they do the job?  I might even end up having to buy more than one...

I'm waiting for the ICB level IV text books for Personal and Business tax to become available but there seems to be a delay, as they were due in September no

Any up date James?

ACCA ones were due in early October but new date in now December release.

Bill, you would like this course on Tax. :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1445383268/ref=ox_sc_act_title_8?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

(or this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACCA-F6-Taxation-FA2010-iLearn/dp/0751794341/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322841828&sr=1-2)

Also take a look at these books :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0857322907/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0857323229/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I know that they are ACCA but it's tax so shouldn't really matter which body you are with.

Here's an old version of the study text that you can look inside

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACCA-P6-Advanced-Taxation-ATX/dp/1847107397/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322841609&sr=1-2

And also one for the lower level tax paper :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/F6-Taxation-TX-FA-10/dp/1847109462/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322841655&sr=1-1

And no, those book thicknesses are not a printing error.

Advanced is 5.8cm thick (and A4 size)

And Basic is 4.4cm thick (and A4 size)

If you've absolutely got to beat anyone to death with a book accept no substitute!

I'm offering study material for the IAB L4 Dipolma in Personal & Business Tax but its a lot more than £60 for all of it. Its current and detailed study material rather than a text book. It covers a lot more than how to complete the tax returns!

The trouble with tax, is it changes every year. So in April any books or manuals will need to be updated. Anyone purchasing the current study material will automatically get one update to replace their existing material free of charge - which is why it costs so much for the first one.

Thanks for the  info Tony.

Been checking in on the ICB shop but so far they are not on there.

One year I will drag myself up country and attend a summit. For me it's a bit of an expensive excercise the moment.
