I get to staple the previous year's supermarket receipts at the top (three months at a time) and file them away in the envelope with the nicely printed label on the front. They can then join the previous years never to be looked at again. (Although, to be fair, some of the food when I was doing my "stock-take" had been bought in 2010 so I did look through those again). Although, if I think about it, if I didn't want to eat the stuff in 2011 then the best before date will soon be upon me and I probably didn't want to eat the stuff anyway.
January always means I promise myself this year I am going to be motre organised and for January I am more organised. The February arrives.

organisation I'm really good at. Remembering where I've organised everything to is where I fall down!

Last year i aquired 2 sets of filing cabinets (local primary school were throwing them away) with the intention of keeping my study and reference material organised and within easy reach, seems i have also adopted gremlins along with the filing cabinets as i'm positive none of my paperwork is where i left it. The best thing to come from gaining the cabinets is that i have my rear pc speakers balanced on top of them for the ultimate surround sound experience lol, apart from that they are useless.
Peasie maybe you should have another column in Excel for things that you bought but will never use, i could fill an entire workbook with such items, especially now Shaun has me collecting books i will probably never get time to read lol.
I've got three really solid top of the range four drawer filing cabinets (cost £54 for all three off Ebay which is less than half what they should have been each) in the office which look really professional to visitors.
The reality is that all that they contain are tea and coffee supplies, spare stationary, some ACCA books and the manuals and guarantees that come with things like printers, monitors and software.
All the real filing is in magazine files on Billy bookcases back in my home office.
Sorry about the book collection Neil. Must admit to having more than one or two acquired from Amazon resellers that get a really good life sitting on my shelves never getting opened unless someone on here asks a question related to that specific text (got 15 AAT, 2 CAT, 11 HND Accounting, 1 ICB and 5 CIMA study texts that for the most part basically cost me postage... Conversly though I've got 83 ACCA texts (3 more arriving imminently) that I've read cover to cover, often multiple times).
Total current tally of directly related books is 296 texts (HMRC texts excluded) of which number I believe 36 spur of the moment purchases remain totally unread... Consider the gaunlet thrown down!

Last year I made a promise to myself to get paperless. As I cast my eye round my office I can see I failed, although it's a bit better than it was.
I have a great envy when I go into my friends office (he's a software developer) and other than a small spiral notebook on each desk he is totally paperless. A huge shredder takes pride of place by the door and they scan and shred paperwork everyday. He rarely even prints anything now either.
Oh how I wish. So this year, my resolution is to get a better quality scanner, and a new shredder. Other than client paperwork I want to be paper-free by 2013.
That is one gauntlet i will not be picking up for fear of doing my back in lol.
Good luck with going paperless kris, let us know how that pans out for you. I'm already a huge Kindle user after years of buying 1 to 2 paperbacks per week, it has already paid for itself and i don't suffer from any "yeah but it doesn't feel or smell like a book" syndrome, who sniffs books anyway? got my Kindle last Christmas and i sure am glad as the ones everybody picked up this year have less than half the memory, i mean could you imagine only having access to 1270 books instead of the normal 2700? heaven forbid.
(book numbers have possibly been slightly, ever so slightly exagerated)

We were told in 1979 at my first induction meeting into my first company that all companies would be paperless within ten years!
Personally I'm of the view that we should have great big fires where everyone who has bought a kindle player (or equivalent own branded product) is forced to bring them and cast them into the flames.
Think of it this way, by using paper your doing your bit for humanity.
People grow tree's for profit. Without profit their would be no incentive to maintain huge forests.
A side effect of the forests is turning carbon doixide into Oxygen so that we can breath, Therefore, people who use kindle players are trying to kill us all!
Do your bit for humanity, use more paper!!!!
P.S. I have a similar arguement about why vegitarians are so cruel to cows and the real animal lovers are meat eaters.

The Penny, Penny, Penny thing will look really weird if I update this thread in a years time. Although maybe Sheldon will have taken over the world in 2012.
Another book arrived this morning. The ICB Level IV Personal taxation book. I think I'll read it just now before the other ones.
Kindles - my mother was thinking about getting one of them to make reading easier. But she just gets books with bigger text now. I don't know how she'd cope with a Kindle anyway. She's hopeless with technology. On the rare occasion I get a text from her it is either meant for someone else or there are no spaces.
I personally don't like Kindles (not that I've actually used one). I think the latest one is even smaller than the last one. I want it the other way. I would get one if it was A4 sized like an HMRC form/leaflet/manual. That's all I'd intend reading on it anyway.
