What is best practice:-

Should the clients paperwork be returned to them after the book-keeping has been completed? or should you be keeping hold of the paperwork

I think this is a horses for courses question (what questions are not?). Personally I can't wait to process clients information and get their paperwork back to them. My office isn't huge and I don't want to be responsible if I had a fire and lost it all etc.

I suppose it depends on how you work and who your clients are.

I'd say it has a lot to do with who will be preparing accounts and taxation returns using this paperwork. Another consideration would be if the client wants to pay you for storage.
