after you typed in 8947 you could have habbitually hit space before pressing enter without even thinking about it.
In computing terms space is different to a null character so the answer would be rejected.
I'm in the camp that scripts should be marked by people who know what they are doing as in this business there are so many situations where answers are not black and white... This however is not one of those situations so my money's on there being a space after the 7.

You could be right, as I was toying with the idea of putting the pence in before realising that it was a projection so it is rounded to whole pounds.
If this is the case the developers should be hanging their heads in shame. Everyone who even dabbles in development knows that you must sanitise user input. It normally starts from the point of thinking every person who uses your system is an idiot and goes from there.
Now, having said that, I'm off to do likewise with my contact form as I've had 3 blank emails from my website today.

I try. I designed and developed the backend for my site.
I've just today finished developing a simple system that will give bookkeepers their own free website.
It's a nice distraction from bookkeeping but I'm not nearly good enough to make a living from it.

'Tis a shame, we have money to throw at someone at the moment, due to the person who was supposed to be finishing the e-commerce site disappearing off the face of the earth.

This is why I like tests and exams to be marked the old fashion way - by a human being! Sometimes just because the final answer is wrong, it is still possible to get some marks, simply because the marker can see that the workings are correct, just a small mistake made which they can spot. A computer cannot make a judgement on marking.

As far as I know Level4 is marked by a person, which is nice.
It is a bit freaky having a computer mark your work, however it does mean that I can walk out of the exam, got to the reception and find if I've passed or failed, and you can appeal the fail if you want in which case it would be looked at by a person, so an error such as above would get picked up.

Hi Steve,
In my experience a lot web designers and developers out there don't actually do much of their own development. They normally cobble together a soloution based on scripts which already exist.
Certainly for ecommerce, there are so many good scripts out there that it really doesn't make financial sense to pay a true developer to build something new.
What was the developer using and was was the site?

Couldn't agree more - computers are only as good as their programming and more often than not this is not done by someone with knowledge of book-keeping and is either right or wrong. Whereas a human marker has and is able to give points, within moderation, to an answer which has intent and/or process correct but does not match correct answer which could result in the difference between a pass and a fail.

I'm not sure, I dont think he scripted it himself, just took a template and modded it, which was fine, we have access to it own all the rights to it etc etc, i've even populated it, however he dissapeared just when we were due to make it live with the ability for people to pay online, so really we are after someone to finish getting it online properly which will be a small job and someone to completely build a new seperate website.
I can send a link if you wish to the website, the shop site as mentioned isn't live as yet.
