NPO Accounting Periods

Dear all,

I've set up a running club and we have just come to the end of our first year (12 month period to 31-12-11). We are about to have our AGM so I'm about to present the account for the first year covering the 12 month period. It would make far more sense to move our year end to 31st March so we are in line with the body we affiliate to as we have to pay subs to them based on number of members in line with their financial years.

Any suggestions on the best way to line up with our Governing body (England Athletics). Am I allowed to present 15 months of accounts and hold our AGM after 31-3-13 next time around ?

Many thanks in advance

You'll need to read your club's constitution to see if there is room to manoeuvre like this. Or indeed if the rules of your governing body allow it.

OK thanks for that. We are going to run with the existing date and propose to bring the YE date stated in the constitution into line with England Athletics for future years at the AGM. This will mean a 15 month accounting period for 2012-13 but I think that should be OK.
