Thought that some of you might be interested to see the first of my free websites for bookkeepers. Strangely after making the offer I got a lot of suspicious emails asking what was in it for me?
We got past that with a few people and the first site is now live, although the owner is going to change some of the text soon.
If you're interested in a similar site head over to book-keeper.org.uk and fill in the form. It comes in a choice of 5 colours.
Regarding the prices I think this question is as split as the hourly/fixed fee one. Some argue to show prices can put off clients, others argue that if you don't disclose a price until a meeting its more difficult for them to say no. The other side argue that if you show a fee then you can weed out those who are looking for rock bottom prices and save wasted time on meetings.
I offer a quote facility which was good when I designed it, but I'm now finding it slightly lacking and will need to set aside some time in February to update it. Personally I wanted to be clear to clients from the start about what I offer and how much I charge.
One suggestion might be to have a small script which randomly shows or hides the price from visitors making a record of which, then see if there is a difference in takeup.
I've decided to use Google sites, it's free and with a bit of imagination I think (I hope) it is possible to create a professional looking website. Regarding the prices I prefer fixed fees and your idea of having a quote form on the website is great, although I think I would need more info from the client to be able to give a quote.
