If you think about it, when you fill in your self assessment at the year end you will need to have sheets for employment (SA100) and trading income (SA103) so HMRC need to know your status.

Must start doing one thing at a time rather than juggling half a dozen at once. (Did a nil PAYE return at the same time as writing the post... On the grounds that nil returns use pretty much nil brain cells!).

I'd have a look on Business Link, Mr/Ms Blackmore. Whether you are employed as well or not, there is a lot to do when first being self employed.
The start up forums would also be worth a look - StartUp Donut for example. Lots of people who can give you detailed help in a general way. For the bookkeeping element, lots of help here - have a search.
