Referral Scheme

Do you offer a referral scheme? What do you give as an incentive? Do you find that it works, or not?

I am planning a referral scheme but I'm looking to learn from any experience here before I kick it into action.

Thanks

Kris

Morning Kris,

didn't we do that one in this thread :

http://www.book-keepers.org.uk/t45051932/incentives-for-clients/

Just a flying visit today as needed to do a bit of web filing on the Companies House website so though that I would just check in to see what's happening on the site... Looks like another very quiet day today.... Perhaps just as well otherwise I would end up staying on here rather than whooshing off to where I need to be.

All the best,

Shaun.

Yeah Shaun,

I remember, however things move on and new people arrive. Rather than drag up an old thread I just wanted a new take on it.

Have you heard "money can't buy you love"?

People refer other s because they love what they do. Other people give names out because they are paid - do not get the two confused.

That was an excellent (and quite profound) analogy Bob.

Definitely one for me to hive away in my site sayings scrapbook (Which to date is was mostly full of Rob (Userid Robh) quotes).

Money greases the machine though Bob. It focuses the mind, if it didn't we'd all be giving our services away. I can't help but think if it didn't work huge companies like Sky wouldn't do it.

Greenshield stamps were a hit, why not bring 'em back. Supply a Kris Catalogue on your site and for every referal your customer receives a virtual stamp or 2 dependant upon the value of the contract. When your customer has collected enough they can choose something naff from the virtual Kris Catalogue.

Have a virtually good weekend

Neil

@Kris - the more important/serious point is that offering money is lazy and goes against what really works which is creating raving fans. Many accountants and bookkeepers fall into the trap of being too technical focussed rather than client centric and this style of marketing encourages the wrong mindset.

I have found that offering a reduction in fee does help, bit not to generate clients but to cement existing relationships. I don't promote it but if any of my clients refer other clients to me I will reduce their fee as a one off discount by £50.

My clients have referred me because they like what I do, and because they have I like to show my appreciation and so far it has been a hit.

The reduction, in my opinion is not enough to get people out there 'selling my services' but I would always like to show appreciation. I have know others to give out bottles of wine, etc at Christmas to do the same.
